Join the Alamo City Guards Camp #1325, Sons of Confederate Veterans, for our August Camp meeting at India Palace.
Our featured speaker will be our own Camp Commander, Christian Lee, presenting a program on The Battle of Nueces.
On August 10, 1862, Confederate cavalry encountered a group of armed Texas Unionists camped along the Nueces River while attempting to reach Mexico. The fighting and its aftermath became one of the most controversial episodes of the Civil War in Texas—remembered by some as a military engagement and by others as the Nueces Massacre.
Commander Lee will explore what led these men to the Nueces River, what occurred during and after the battle and why the event remains debated more than 160 years later.
Come early, order dinner and enjoy fellowship with fellow compatriots before the program begins. Guests, friends and prospective members are always welcome.
