NAPLES, Fla. — A teacher at a Collier County Public School showed a video seemingly celebrating “Confederate History Month” to an entire middle school. Now, the principal of the school is offering answers to students who are trying to comprehend what they just saw.

“What’s being exposed to my kid in this sense,” said Christine Cooper, whose daughter is in 6th grade at Manatee Middle School.
The video, narrated and produced by a rogue teacher at Manatee Middle School, was shown for all students to see during the morning announcements last Tuesday.
“If you didn’t know, April is an officially celebrated month here in the State of Florida named Confederate History Month,” said the teacher in the video. “Every year our state celebrates and memorializes that valiant, brave fight and the countless sacrifices by our men and women during that known as the Civil War, but may be more correctly titled the War To Prevent Southern Independence.”
A spokesperson for Collier County Public Schools said the teacher acted without “authorization” when it came to showing the video to the young students.
